Once a month, Dishon and I attend the NFB of Denver Chapter meeting. It takes place on the third Saturday of every month at the same place where we work. Last November, I was elected the secretary of the chapter board. How would I do something like that? All I need is my slate and a few sheets of paper. I take notes during the chapter meetings and the board meetings. Yesterday morning was the first time I took notes during a chapter meeting. Since Dishon is also a member of the board, this is something we are both part of. Dishon’s contribution is assisting with the preparation of the breakfast that the chapter sells in order to raise money. We not only experience this with our coworkers but some of our students and former students participate, as well. I consider it an expansion of our work family.
Dishon and I got home from work around 5:15 today and basked in the fact that it’s Friday. I’ve had a sore throat for most of the week so you can imagine I was grateful for the week to be over. But anyway, shortly after we got home, Dishon handed me a little surprise. One thing not many people know about me is that I love butterflies. What he handed me is meant to be hung on the wall. Attached were butterflies of different colors. As stated in other posts, I have enough vision to appreciate colors as long as they’re bold and the contrast is right. You may wonder why I’m posting about this. Well, a lot of people wonder how the blind shop and if we know enough to buy nice things for people. Dishon has always been great at buying presents for me. He uses a lot of well-known sites like Amazon. As far as marriage is concerned, it’s all about knowing your spouse and what they like. In his case, I got him a surround sound system for Christmas. I knew that would be a thoughtful gift for him because he is all about making our home nice in as many ways as possible. Surround sound is an awesome accessory for your living room or basement. If I ever purchase something over the phone, I ask a lot of questions since I can’t hold the product in my hand. But that’s how it’s done. Not very different than your average married couple who lives next door.
I may have mentioned in previous posts thad Dishon and I often discuss the possibility of having children. We’ve been married for over a year and a half now and my desire for babies seems to get stronger every day. So what’s the problem? We can’t afford to live where we are on one income. Moreover, I don’t want to continue working just to pay for day care. You don’t get those precious moments with your babies back. So my husband and I have come to an agreement; we will start our family when I find work from home that will supplement what I’m making now (at least). That’s easier said than done. I have been scraping the internet for at home possibilities. The typical order of things is as follows: There’s big print of some sort that says Workers Needed, No Experience required, free to start. Then you give them your information and click “Next” and what do you see? There’s just a one-time fee of $49.99. That’s not free folks. I’m frustrated and sad. Never in my life have I expected to be rich. I just want to be home with our children as opposed to pawning them off on someone else. So in this post, I am asking you guys if there’s anything you know of that’s not a scam and that won’t cost me an arm and a leg. If so, please let me know.
Yesterday, Dishon received a chain e-mail about a blind film maker seeking musical talent for an upcoming movie sound track. So what? There’s a big difference between this search and other competitions one would watch on television. This man in particular is looking for talented musicians who are disabled in some way and have not yet been able to make into the music business through other sources and competitions. The unfortunate truth is that appearance is everything. The fact that there is someone out there looking for the disabled for his movie sound track is amazing to me. I am strongly considering sending in a video. When Dishon told me to check my e-mail, I figured it was just something about making money from home. But he has always been behind me in the possibility of my moving forward in the area of music. I will keep you guys posted. If you would like to see some video of me singing, although the videos are somewhat outdated, visit http://jennylynne.ribecca.com. Now to decide what to sing, what to wear and where to film.
